A Letter from Dean Joseph Hopkins:
This summer, I joined more than a century of tradition in great performance and scholarship at the School of Performing Arts. I knew the heritage of Samford arts, yet nothing could have prepared me for the extraordinary faculty and brilliant student talents who are today's Samford. From festivals in Europe to national conferences to international competitions to local churches, Samford performers and scholars bring distinction to an already impressive legacy, and give us the opportunity to share in those achievements at the School of Performing Arts.
Living in the artistically thriving Birmingham "Magic City" area, students enjoy regular opportunities to attend and perform in concerts sponsored by such organizations as the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and the Alabama Ballet. In addition, Samford students interact first-hand with some of the world's major artists who frequently schedule informal discussions, open rehearsals, and master classes at Samford.
I invite you to join in what promises to be one of the most exciting seasons in the history of Samford performing arts as we fill the new Jane Hollock Brock Hall and the newly renovated Bonnie Bolding Swearingen Hall with music and drama. These two facilities, added to Buchanan Hall and the majestic Wright Center, provide exceptional venues for the extraordinary talents of Samford. We hope you will join us on campus to celebrate this season of great achievement in magnificent new spaces.
